King Amaziah: “God Can Do More”; The Wisdom of Kings
Amaziah was a king of compromise, with a heart that was divided in his commitment to God. When he tried to lead by getting by with just partial obedience to God, Amaziah opened himself up to the dangers of pride and the wrong kind of wisdom. Amaziah’s demise serves as a reminder to surrender every corner of our heart to God – to fully trust God! What area of your heart is God still asking you to surrender?

King Jehoshaphat: “Taking Shortcuts”; The Wisdom of Kings”
Jehoshaphat was a good king, all the way through. But he wasn’t perfect, and got himself in trouble by using ungodly partnerships to shortcut his way to what God already had in store for him. Jehoshaphat reminds us to seek God in God’s way to receive God’s blessing.

King Rehoboam: “Paying the Price of Worship”; The Wisdom of Kings
The Kingdom of Israel divided under Solomon’s son, Rehoboam, into the northern and southern kingdoms. But Solomon had just finished building the temple! Would the citizens of the north continue to worship at the temple in Jerusalem? Would that even be possible? Would it be okay to worship idols closer to home instead?

King Solomon: “What You Really Need”; The Wisdom of Kings
King Solomon inherited the massive challenge of governing his father David’s kingdom. He knew that a good education and good mentoring alone were not enough for the task – he would need something special from God. We also need the gift Solomon received, and it is available to all who ask for it.

King David: “A Tangled Web”; The Wisdom of Kings
King David, Israel’s second and most beloved king, was guilty of shocking acts – he committed adultery with a friend’s wife, then had him killed to cover it up! Not until he was confronted did he confess and repent of his sin. Even so, the consequences of his sin continued to spin out for years. And yet, David experienced total forgiveness, and from that sinful relationship comes the lineage that brings us Jesus our Savior. Amazing grace!

King David: “A Heart After God”, The Wisdom of Kings
King David, the “man after God’s heart”, had been readied for leadership in the pastures. David’s faithfulness in the lowly and insignificance of shepherding prepared him for the challenge of Goliath, and the pressures of leadership. Are you faithful right where you are, even if it seems insignificant at the moment?

King Saul: “Character Counts”; The Wisdom of Kings
As Israel’s first king, Saul had the potential to establish a powerful dynasty. But his insecurity and recklessness kept him from doing what God asked of him. Even though he ruled for 42 years, his deep character flaws cost him everything and caused others to suffer. What can we learn from Saul’s mistakes?

“Why the World Needs You”; The Wisdom of Kings
The world needs hope, good news and restoration. The world needs what God offers, but most don’t believe it. Every believer is here for a reason: to glorify God and benefit others. Do you know why the world needs you?

“Delusional Darius”, Faith in the Real World: Part 6

When many of us look at familiar stories in the bible we can often miss huge parts of what is going on and rely on what we already know. This Sunday we are going to explore the Story of Daniel and the Lions’ Den, but not from the perspective of Daniel.  We are going to get to know Darius and how Daniel’s story changed his life.
